Hiwot Walelign Workneh is an award-winning Ethiopian novelist and academic known for capturing the realities, struggles, and resilience of Ethiopian youth. She writes primarily for young adults, crafting meaningful, relatable, and inspiring narratives. 
Background & Education

Hiwot grew up in Ethiopia and has transitioned from an aspiring writer into a prominent voice in contemporary Ethiopian literature. She is currently a PhD candidate in English Literature at Addis Ababa University. She balances her academic work and writing career while living in Addis Ababa with her husband and two sons, though she also spends time engaging with literary communities abroad, such as in Silver Spring, Maryland. 
Notable Books

  • While Waiting for September (2026): Her latest young adult novel is a powerful coming-of-age story centered on courage, transformation, and youth experiences.
