Jawar Mohammed

Jawar Mohammed is a prominent Ethiopian political analyst, activist, and media founder who played a defining role in reshaping Ethiopia’s modern political landscape. He is best known as the intellectual inspiration behind the Qeerroo youth movement and a lead organizer of the 2014–2018 Oromo protests, which ultimately led to the resignation of Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and facilitated the rise of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Initially a pivotal ally of the new administration, Jawar transitioned into one of its fiercest opposition critics, advocating for multinational federalism and Oromo representation within a unified Ethiopian state.
