Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Dr. Fekadu completed his pre-college (elementary, middle & high-school) education in the same city. He joined the then-Haile Selassie I University in 1970 and obtained a B. Pharm. degree. After a brief work stint at the Pasteur Institute in Addis Ababa, he joined the University of Illinois at Chicago in the USA, where he obtained a doctorate degree in pharmacy, focusing on medicinal natural products. Immediately after graduation, he performed a post-doctoral training at the Research Triangle Institute (RTI) in Durham, North Carolina. While there, he was promoted to a Research Chemist III position. Dr. Fekadu then entered clinical pharmacy practice, during which period he supervised the research work of a generation of Pharmacy Post-Pharm.D. Residents.
During his long career, Dr. Fekadu produced over 180 publications embodied in books, book chapters, scientific articles, reviews and popular articles. He participates in a number of journal activities and professional societies. In addition to receiving several awards, he is an Associate Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences.
Based in the United States and affiliated with medical and pharmaceutical institutions, Dr. Fullas has built a career in clinical pharmacy, natural products research, and academic writing. His work focuses on analyzing traditional Ethiopian remedies through scientific frameworks, making them accessible to both researchers and general readers.
Beyond his scientific work, he has also contributed to scholarly publications and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists Association in the Diaspora (EPPAD) Bulletin, highlighting his leadership in academic and professional communities.
